My Love

On this wonderful journey called life I’ve had very high moments and very low ones. Growing up in a sexist country makes you, as a woman, strip away your own worth.

Leaving my country has been one of the richest and most terrifying experiences I’ve had to face. Even so, one person taught me that men don’t always devalue women. From a very young age I felt invisible, so I was very shy and in a way I always compared my body to other people’s.

Many will say, but you’re thin, what are you complaining about? Growing up taught me that stereotypes only do harm, and I began the great journey of loving my body.

Even so, my mind wasn’t healed, and for a long time I kept having moments of deep sadness. Only my willpower and thinking of others kept me from doing something terrible, hurting myself because I didn’t understand my negative emotions or where they came from.

I always understood that I needed help, but somehow I always avoided it, until I hit rock bottom, and in that moment I understood that I had to do all this work for me and for no one else, because if I don’t take charge of my mind, who will?

I’m just at the beginning of this process of accepting help, not only from friends and professionals but from myself, of seeing things in a different way.

Finding the courage to do these photos with Pralad, something I couldn’t even imagine doing a few years ago, was part of that process of self-love and of taking ownership of myself in every possible sense of life, because we always somehow try to lean on someone, but they won’t always be there and you have to live with your own company.

Every day is a new beginning for me, a new chance to show how much I love and value myself and how much I want to live to reach my small short-, medium- and long-term goals.
